Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Officer at Babban Gona

Babban GonaLagos, Nigeria Data and Artificial Intelligence
Full Time

Babban Gona, which means "Great Farm" in the Hausa language, is a social enterprise organization that provides support for smallholder farmers in Nigeria to become more profitable.

  • As our Monitoring & Evaluation Officer, you are not just analyzing results, you are shaping the narrative of change. You ensure that every insight, report, and indicator reflects the truth of our impact with accuracy, clarity, and integrity. Your work helps leadership make informed, evidence-based decisions that strengthen programs and drive measurable progress.

Why this role matters:

  • We’re scaling fast and expanding our impact even faster. To sustain that growth, we need clarity, not just in vision, but in evidence. We can’t afford gaps in our data or insights that arrive too late. We need a measurement professional who is analytical yet curious, meticulous yet adaptive, and committed to ensuring that every data point accurately reflects the true story of our impact.
  • The Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) team is foundational to our mission. It ensures that every service we deliver translates into verifiable outcomes: increased yields, higher net incomes, and improved food security for our members. As an M&E Officer, you will play a vital role in maintaining data integrity, supporting field monitoring, and contributing to impact reporting. You will help transform raw field data into meaningful insights that drive strategic decisions and strengthen our ability to secure impact-driven funding.
  • This role is central to our accountability, our credibility, and our ability to grow with purpose.

You will:

  • Conduct routine data quality checks and field audits to ensure program data is accurate, consistent, and reliable.
  • Manage and clean datasets while supporting the refinement of data collection tools, templates, and SOPs in collaboration with the Technology team.
  • Monitor program performance, analyze trends, identify discrepancies, and provide timely insights that support continuous improvement.
  • Prepare clear, well-structured reports and visualizations that contribute to organizational learning and program adaptation.
  • Train, guide, and support field teams on accurate data collection, indicator tracking, and effective data use.

Requirements

  • You’re not just an analyst, you’re a storyteller of data and a guardian of accuracy. You thrive in high-impact, fast-paced environments where insight, rigor, and strategy intersect.

You should have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Agricultural Economics, International Development, or a related quantitative field.
  • 2–3 years of hands-on experience in M&E, data analysis, or a research-focused role, ideally within a social enterprise, non-profit, or development consulting environment in Nigeria.
  • Proficiency in statistical software or data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, R, Python, STATA, or SPSS).
  • Experience with mobile data collection platforms (e.g., SurveyCTO, ODK, or KoboToolbox).
  • Proven ability to create clear data visualizations and dashboards (e.g., using Power BI or Tableau).
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a relentless commitment to data accuracy.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex field-level data challenges.

You’ll thrive if you are:

  • Insight-driven: You see patterns in data others might miss.
  • Solution-oriented: When discrepancies arise, you dig deep to find the root cause.
  • Collaborative: You partner across teams to turn data into actionable insights.
  • Detail-obsessed: Accuracy is non-negotiable.
  • Curious and proactive: You continuously seek to improve systems, processes, and the way data informs decisions.
