We are looking for a Backend Developer to join our growing engineering team. In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain robust backend services and APIs that power Tobamsgroup’s web applications. You’ll collaborate with product, design, and AI/ML teams to deliver high-quality, data-driven software solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in designing and building scalable backend services and RESTful APIs.
- Support maintenance and improvement of existing backend systems.
- Collaborate with AI/ML engineers to help integrate machine learning models into production environments.
- Implement backend logic for gamification features such as points systems, leaderboards, badges, rewards, challenges, and progress tracking.
- Work closely with frontend developers, product managers, and designers to deliver seamless user experiences.
- Write clean, testable, and maintainable code under supervision.
- Assist in database design, optimization, and maintenance (MongoDB, PostgreSQL, or MySQL).
- Support debugging, performance optimization, and application monitoring.
- Contribute to API documentation and technical documentation.
- Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and sprint meetings.
- Support CI/CD processes and deployment activities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Basic to intermediate proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript.
- Foundational knowledge of Node.js (NestJS/Express.js).
- Understanding of RESTful API principles.
- Familiarity with MongoDB, PostgreSQL, or MySQL.
- Basic understanding of authentication and authorization (JWT, OAuth2).
- Familiarity with Git and version control workflows.
- Understanding of backend architecture fundamentals and microservices concepts.
- Basic exposure to Docker or cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) is an advantage.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to learn, adapt, and work in a fast-paced remote team.
- Humble, hardworking, and ambitious mindset.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Knowledge of Python.
- Experience with message queues (RabbitMQ, Kafka).
- Exposure to DevOps practices and infrastructure as code (Terraform).
- Familiarity with event-driven systems and webhook handling.
- Experience with AI/ML integration and MLOps practices.
