We are looking for highly competent, experienced, motivated, and results-driven individual that will fit into our Newsroom as Data Journalist. The successful candidate will support the newsroom by finding, analysing, and presenting data in innovative ways to produce stories that are both accurate and engaging across print, broadcast, and digital platforms.
The Data Journalist will work with Audio Visual and output desk, editors and reporters to identify stories hidden in numbers, develop visual presentations, and make complex issues easy for audiences to understand.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collect, clean, and analyse data to support news and feature stories.
- Work with reporters and editors to identify opportunities for data-driven storytelling.
- Create simple and clear charts, graphics, and visualizations for print and digital platforms.
- Support fact-checking and investigative projects through data analysis.
- Ensure accuracy, transparency, and integrity in all data-related work.
- Keep up to date with emerging tools and best practices in data journalism.
Qualifications & Skills Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field.
- 1 – 3 years of experience in journalism, research, or data analysis (internship or project-based experience acceptable).
- Basic proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets (knowledge of Python, R, or SQL is an advantage).
- Familiarity with data visualization tools.
- Good writing and storytelling skills with ability to translate numbers into clear narratives.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Eagerness to learn and grow in a fast-paced, digital-first newsroom.
