Job Overview:

The Head of Brand Communications and Marketing will lead the agency’s brand positioning, PR/marketing strategy, and communications initiatives while managing client-facing projects to ensure world-class delivery. This role requires a dynamic, results-oriented leader with a strong background in integrated marketing, brand storytelling, and PR management in the Pan-African space.

You will be responsible for:

  • Enhancing WhirlSpot Media’s visibility and thought leadership across Africa.
  • Overseeing marketing campaigns and internal/external communications.
  • Managing and executing integrated marketing campaigns for WhirlSpot’s clients.
  • Ensuring Marketing and PR activities are executed excellently
  • Driving innovation in PR, digital engagement, and strategic brand positioning.

Key Responsibilities:

Agency Brand Strategy & Positioning:

  • Develop and implement WhirlSpot Media’s annual brand communication and marketing strategy.
  • Build and maintain a strong Pan-African brand presence through campaigns, media features, and strategic partnerships.
  • Create compelling thought-leadership content to position the agency as a top-tier player in the integrated marketing and PR landscape.

Marketing & Communication Execution:

  • Design and oversee multi-channel marketing campaigns (digital, social media, traditional media, events).
  • Develop innovative storytelling and PR campaigns to enhance brand visibility.
  • Manage the agency’s digital footprint, including website content, blogs, newsletters, and social media.

Client Project Management:

  • Lead high-impact integrated marketing and PR projects for clients, ensuring timely and excellent delivery.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop client marketing strategies and campaigns.
  • Act as a senior client-facing liaison, maintaining strong relationships and delivering measurable results.

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Manage and mentor the communications and marketing team to deliver world-class campaigns.
  • Drive performance metrics and KPIs for marketing and communication projects.
  • Encourage creativity, innovation, and results-driven execution across the team.

Analytics & Reporting:

  • Measure the success of marketing and PR campaigns using analytics and reporting tools.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to optimise marketing ROI for both WhirlSpot and its clients.

Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Mass Communication, Business, or related fields (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum of 8–10 years of experience in marketing, PR, or integrated communications, with at least 3–4 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of managing Pan-African campaigns and multi-market projects.
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing, PR, and integrated marketing strategies.
  • Excellent leadership, project management, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Exceptional writing, presentation, and communication abilities.
  • Experience in agency environments or managing multiple client portfolios is a strong advantage.
  • Collaborating with senior team members across all departments to uncover insights and create innovative marketing and branding strategies.
  • Identifying ways to grow the marketing department and secure resources.
  • Sourcing talent to ensure the curation and retention of specialist skill sets across your teams.
  • Monitoring, reviewing, and reporting on all marketing activities, results, and Return on Investment (ROI)
