Phase3 Telecom is Africa’s leading aerial fibre optic network infrastructure provider, delivering world class connectivity and network solutions to the continent’s largest telecoms networks and IP providers, as well as a growing number of businesses and homes. Incorporated in 2003, Phase 3 was licenced as a national long distance operator to provide transmission services in 2006. Since then, Phase 3 has built a fully owned and operated 7000km open access aerial fibre optic network using our exclusive Right of Way along Nigeria’s power transmission infrastructure. We are constantly expanding our network in Nigeria and are working in partnership with the ECOWAS secretariat to broaden our reach into the sub-region as part of the Intelcom II initiative to ensure interconnectivity across West Africa. A project which has been incorporated by the ITU as central to the achievement of its Connect Africa initiative. We are also deepening the services that we are able to offer. From a purely transmission and backhaul service set we have built a suite of enterprise and retail products designed to bring world class internet directly into the businesses and homes of ordinary Nigerians.
Job Summary:
- We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Network Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our core network infrastructure and client solutions. You will play a key role in ensuring the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of our network services, which directly support our business and our customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Network Design & Implementation: Deploy, configure, and maintain network hardware and software, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless systems.
- MPLS Management: Design, provision, and troubleshoot Layer 2 and Layer 3 MPLS VPN services on Cisco, Huawei, and Mikrotik platforms.
- Security Management: Configure and manage firewall rules, VPNs (SSL/IPsec), and security policies on Fortigate and Sophos firewalls to protect the network perimeter and internal assets.
- Wireless & LAN Deployment: Plan and implement enterprise-grade Local Area Networks (LAN) and Wireless solutions using Cisco WLAN Controllers and Mikrotik CAPsMAN, and UniFi Controller for Wireless Access Points.
- Internet Access Services: Manage and optimize Direct Internet Access (DIA) solutions for reliability and performance.
- Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Proactively monitor network performance, diagnose and resolve complex network issues, and perform root cause analysis.
- Microsoft 365 Support: Provide foundational support to staff on the use of M365 applications like Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
- Documentation: Create and maintain detailed network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and operational procedures.
- On-Call Support: Participate in an on-call rotation to provide 24/7 support for critical network infrastructure.
Required Qualifications & Technical Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in a network engineering role, preferably within a telecom or ISP environment.
Essential Technical Proficiency:
- Routers: Strong experience with Huawei NE and AR Series routers for MPLS and BGP configurations.
- Switching: Solid understanding of Cisco Catalyst switches (Layer 2/Layer 3) and Mikrotik RouterOS and SwitchOS.
- Firewalls: Proven experience configuring and managing Fortigate and Sophos firewalls.
- Wireless: Hands-on experience with Mikrotik wireless equipment and UniFi controller-based WAP deployment and management.
- Protocols & Services: In-depth knowledge of BGP, OSPF, MPLS (L2VPN/VPLS, L3VPN), VLANs, STP, QoS, and IPsec VPNs.
- Experience with Microsoft 365 administration and its interaction with network infrastructure.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Relevant industry certifications (e.g., HCIA/HCIP, CCNA/CCNP, NSE4/5, MTCNA, MTCRE).
- Experience with network automation and scripting (e.g., Python, Ansible).
- Strong understanding of network security principles and best practices.
