The Network Operations Specialist is accountable for ensuring the daily performance and availability of the organisation’s Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN). This role includes analysing the network, recommending upgrades or changes, and assessing the organisation's current and future network requirements.
Responsibilities include:
- Plan and oversee network installations, circuit integrations, network equipment maintenance, and overall operations.
- Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot network issues as they arise.
- Monitor network performance to identify potential problems and ensure high performance levels.
- Prepare monthly reports on network availability.
- Maintain the network infrastructure by addressing issues with firewalls, routers, switches, wireless controllers, wireless access points, radius servers, and more.
- Create Bills of Materials (BOM) for new, faulty, and end-of-life network devices.
- Implement software upgrades or patches on network-related devices.
- Maintain records of network activity, including logs of user activity and system performance metrics.
- Facilitate and execute Change Management requests according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) or Methods of Procedure (MOP).
- Ensure that all network documentation is up to date.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree (B.Sc.) or a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 to 6 years of work experience in the same or a related position.
- Relevant Cisco and networking certifications, such as CCNP, Fortinet NSE4, and Palo Alto PCNSE.
- Experience with networking protocols, including TCP/IP, IPsec, DMVPN, GRE, VXLAN, VRRP, MPLS, BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP.
- Proficient in leading networking technologies, including software-defined WAN (SD-WAN), Wi-Fi 7, and network automation.
- Experience with Unified Threat Management (UTM) solutions.
- Excellent communication skills.
