Intersex Nigeria (Center for Healthcare Development and Youth Empowerment) is an intersex-led and focused Non-Governmental Organization in Nigeria. We promote and advocate for the sexual reproductive health, self-determination, bodily autonomy, and overall human rights of intersex people in all diversity in Nigeria. Through community building, advocacy, evidence-based research, empowerment, educational and informational resources on intersex-related issues to the public, partners, stakeholders, and our community.
About the position
- The Communications Strategist will lead the development and execution of strategic communications that amplify intersex voices and strengthen our public presence. This role combines strategic communications planning with hands-on digital design and content creation, ensuring our messaging is impactful, inclusive, and visually compelling across platforms. The ideal candidate is a strategic storyteller, skilled communicator, and rights-based advocate responsible for shaping the organization’s public image and ensuring inclusive, sensitive, and accurate representation of intersex persons.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications & Branding
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy aligned with organizational goals and advocacy priorities.
- Craft inclusive, rights-affirming messaging on intersex issues for diverse audiences.
- Support advocacy campaigns, policy engagement, and public education initiatives.
- Ensure consistent branding, messaging, and tone across all communication platforms.
- Create and manage annual communication plans and content calendars.
Digital Design & Content Creation
- Design high-quality digital materials including social media graphics, infographics, reports, and campaign assets.
- Produce engaging multimedia content such as short videos, reels, carousels, and visual stories.
- Maintain visual consistency and brand identity across all communication materials.
Website Maintenance & Management
- Manage and regularly update the organization’s website, ensuring content accuracy, accessibility, and relevance.
- Publish news, blog posts, reports, and campaign materials.
- Coordinate basic website maintenance, layout updates, and image optimization.
- Work with developers or hosting providers on technical issues and improvements.
Content Management & Digital Platforms
- Plan, write, edit, and publish content across the website, social media, newsletters, and email campaigns.
- Track website and social media analytics to assess performance and improve engagement.
Media & Stakeholder Engagement
- Draft press releases, media statements, and advocacy briefs.
- Support media engagement and external communications with partners, donors, and stakeholders.
- Ensure ethical, respectful, and consent-based storytelling of intersex experiences.
Key Skills and Qualifications
- Strategic Storytelling: Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to translate complex issues into compelling messages.
- Digital Design: Proficiency in design tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
- Website Management: Demonstrated experience in website content management and maintenance.
- Digital Advocacy: Strong understanding of communication strategies, media engagement, and social media platform management.
- Human Rights Context: Strong understanding of intersex and human rights contexts in Nigeria.
