Malaria Consortium Nigeria is committed to tackling the large number of malaria cases and deaths in the country. Working in partnership with the Ministry of Health and other partners, we lead and support three major malaria control initiatives in the country: Support to the National Malaria Control Programme (SuNMaP); NetWorks and MAPS. Our areas of focus include: Technical support for malaria control Capacity building, harmonisation and training of health workers Heath systems strengthening Behaviour Change Communications and community outreach activities Operational research, policy and advocacy

Purpose of the assignment

  • The aim of the technical assistance is to evaluate the experiences and perspectives of caregivers, community mobilizers and relevant stakeholders on PMC community dialogue intervention and gain in-depth understanding of lessons learnt to inform scale up of PMC SBCC intervention.

Scope of assignment
The Most Significant Change methodology will be used for the SBCC evaluation. The following activities will be carried out:

  • Development of a qualitative research protocol including the preparation of MSC participatory data collection tools.
  • Collection of data using focus group discussion with selected groups of people in selected LGAs
    • FGDs will be conducted with caregivers of children less than two years, health workers, men, WDCs and community mobilizers. Caregivers and health facility staff will be recruited from intervention facilities on scheduled recruitment days, caregivers of eligible children will be invited to take part in a FGD on a named date in an accessible, private location.
    • Groups will be purposely sampled to represent a range of implementation and socio-demographic states (including intervention coverage, age, gender, and staff type). A minimum of four FGDs will be conducted per day. Overall, a minimum of 16 FGDs will be conducted. The study will aim to include 8-10 participants per FGDs.
  • Transcription of focus group discussions
  • Analysis of findings on the cognitive, emotional, and environmental factors that drive behaviour change
  • Analysis of the target audience needs and behaviour on PMC and Immunization.
  • Preparation of draft and final report based on feedback from Malaria Consortium and the NMCP.

Specific tasks for Data collectors:

  • Attend study briefing and training by the lead consultant
  • Conduct FGDs/KIIs/IDIs
  • Translate and transcribe the recorded interviews on a daily basis
  • Submit typed transcripts

Deliverables for Data collectors:

  • Collect data during FGD
  • Transcripts each data collected from FGD
  • Submission of notes taking during FGD

Qualifications and experience for Data Collectors

  • OND / HND or or BSc Degree in Sociology, Public Health, Social Work, Anthropology, or any relevant social science field
  • At least 2 years’ experience in conducting qualitative data collection (e.g. focus group discussions, in-depth interviews, key informant interviews) in community- based or public health programs.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, particularly in notetaking, audio recordings, and accurate transcription or summary of responses.
  • Basic computer literacy, especially with smartphone or tablet-based applications.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage respectfully with diverse community members, including caregivers, health workers, and community leaders.
  • Fluency in Yoruba, including ability to conduct interviews and translate local expressions effectively during data collection.
  • Resident in Osun State

Desired:

  • Self-motivated, organized, and capable of working independently or with minimal supervision in the field.
  • Willingness to complete assigned daily targets and report to the supervisor at the end of each workday for review and feedback.
