Job Summary
The General Manager (GM) will provide overall leadership and operational direction for the printing company. The role requires strong technical expertise in printing operations alongside the ability to develop and execute revenue-generating strategies, expand market share, and ensure efficient production, quality output, and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all printing operations including offset, digital, large format, screen, and finishing processes.
- Ensure proper setup, calibration, and maintenance of printing machines and equipment.
- Maintain high standards of print quality, colour accuracy, turnaround time, and waste reduction.
- Supervise production schedules to meet client deadlines efficiently.
- Develop and implement strategies to increase revenue, market penetration, and profitability.
- Identify new income streams such as corporate printing contracts, bulk jobs, branding solutions, and packaging services.
- Drive pricing strategies that balance competitiveness and profitability.
- Monitor sales performance and introduce initiatives to improve order volume and repeat business.
- Work closely with sales and marketing teams to convert leads into profitable print jobs.
- Build strong relationships with corporate clients, agencies, and key accounts.
- Oversee proposal preparation, quotations, and contract negotiations.
- Optimize production workflow to reduce downtime, waste, and operating costs.
- Manage procurement of paper, inks, consumables, and other production materials.
- Ensure effective inventory control and vendor management.
- Lead, train, and supervise production staff, sales teams, and support functions.
- Ensure staff are skilled in machine handling, safety, and quality control.
- Conduct performance evaluations and support staff development.
- Prepare and manage operational budgets.
- Track production costs, margins, and profitability per job.
- Ensure accurate costing, billing, and revenue reporting.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
- Implement preventive maintenance schedules to minimize machine breakdowns.
- Enforce health and safety practices within the production environment.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Printing Technology, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7–10 years experience in a printing or production environment, with at least 4 years in a management role.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of printing machines, materials, and processes.
- Proven track record in sales growth, revenue generation, and cost control.
- Good understanding of print costing, pricing, and workflow management.
