ECWA Hospital, Egbe, a division of ECWA (Evangelical Church Winning All), is a rural teaching hospital established in 1952 and located in Egbe, Kogi State, Nigeria. The hospital serves a 100-mile radius of villages and small towns in a poor area. It is a 110-bed hospital on a 32-acre complex that includes 5 wards for patients, 3 Operating rooms, a Maternity ward, an Under-fives clinic, an Eye care center, an HIV/AIDs counseling center, a Physiotherapy clinic, and a dental clinic. The hospital runs a 24-hour emergency and intensive care unit. The hospital has an X-ray department with digital radiology including portable X-ray, outpatient and bedside ultrasound services, electrocardiography, gastroscopy, and HSG.
Position Summary
- Reporting to the Head of the Health Information Management Department, the Health Information Management technician will work closely with unit staff to organize and manage patient health information in both digital and electronic formats. This will include accurately collecting patient social and demographic information.
Responsibilities
- Registration: Accurately register new patients into the EMR system, ensuring that all relevant demographic and insurance information is collected and entered correctly. Upload patient hard copy file to the EMR for historical clinical data.
- Insurance Authorization: Obtain and manage insurance authorization codes for patients, verifying coverage and ensuring that necessary approvals are in place before providing certain treatments or services.
- Insurance Verification: Ensure that patient insurance information is current and valid, coordinating with insurance providers as needed.
- Data Integrity: Monitor and maintain the integrity of patient records, ensuring that all information is accurately reflected in the EMR system.
- Confidentiality: Protect patient privacy and ensure that access to patient information is restricted to unauthorized personnel.
- Analyze Reports: Download and analyze reports from the EMR system as needed for administrative, clinical, or regulatory purposes.
Qualifications
- Must be a committed and growing Christian in good standing.
- National Diploma in Health Information Management.
- Minimum 2 years working experience as a Health Information Management Technician.
- Proven communication and interpersonal skills required to interact with management and employees; collaborate on teams and develop positive working relationships.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to details.
- Ability to work diligently under pressure and maintain confidentiality.
- Proficient computer skills and knowledge of email, Word, Excel, Power Point; working knowledge of office equipment and use of electronic medical records software packages.
- Ability to communicate in Yoruba and or Hausa is an asset.
