MTN Nigeria is part of the MTN Group, Africa\'s leading cellular telecommunications company. On May 16, 2001, MTN became the first GSM network to make a call following the globally lauded Nigerian GSM auction conducted by the Nigerian Communications Commission earlier in the year. Thereafter the company launched full commercial operations beginning with Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt. MTN paid $285m for one of four GSM licenses in Nigeria in January 2001. To date, in excess of US$1.8 billion has been invested building mobile telecommunications infrastructure in Nigeria. Since launch in August 2001, MTN has steadily deployed its services across Nigeria. It now provides services in 223 cities and towns, more than 10,000 villages and communities and a growing number of highways across the country, spanning the 36 states of the Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Many of these villages and communities are being connected to the world of telecommunications for the first time ever. The company\'s digital microwave transmission backbone, the 3,400 Kilometre Y\'elloBahn was commissioned by President Olusegun Obasanjo in January 2003 and is reputed to be the most extensive digital microwave transmission infrastructure in all of Africa. The Y\'elloBahn has significantly helped to enhance call quality on MTN network.

Reports To: Senior Manager - Data and Analytics

Division: Information Technology

Mission:

  • To develop and oversee the implementation and support of Data Engineering & Analytics that service the Enterprise and the customer experience of these services in line with MTN business strategy.

Description:

  • Review MTNN business direction and contribute to the development of Information Services, demonstrating an understanding of MTNN business strategies and needs of the customer.
  • Develop detailed plans in support of approved strategies in respect of Information Service Management, organizing required resources, monitoring and periodically reporting progress of plans. 
  • Lead the service management team and drive a service based culture in IT and put in place a reliable support system with clear processes and procedures and tools for measuring service delivery and performance.
  • Investigate new applications in support of MTNN’s strategy and lead the process of selection of suitable technologies and manage related negotiations with suppliers accordingly.
  • Review the array of technologies available for MTNN processes and advise business users of the best possible solutions based on their requirements, growth, emerging technologies and MTNN’s objective.
  • Maintain day to day responsibility for the ownership and resolution (including any referral or escalation as may be necessary) of Data & Analytics to ensure the provision of an optimum service to the internal customer 24 hours a day.
  • Define standards and guidelines for Analytics & DataOps and review service metrics (KPIs) that identify the success of the services being utilized and recommend as well as coordinate implementation of changes to Service Management services to improve metrics.
  • Create and maintain a knowledge repository system to support Data Engineering, AI, Data Ops & Data science function, gathering, analyzing, storing and sharing knowledge and information using a variety of processes and technologies.
  • Identify training and development needs and manage skills enhancement programmes for the Data, AI & Analytics team to address knowledge gaps and enrich knowledge repository within the department.
  • Review performance of individual team members and complete appraisals in accordance with the employee performance appraisal procedures and time schedules.

Education:

  • First degree in an IT related field
  • Master’s Degree in Business Admin/Science is desirable

Experience:

6-13 years’ experience which includes the following:

  • At least 3 years experience in relevant sector/ industry 
  • Worked across diverse cultures and geographies advantageous 
  • At least 5 years of relevant technical Database, ETL, Data Engineering, AI experience & certification
  • Experience in Databases, Big data, Data Engr, AIOps and Data science is desirable
