Overall purpose of the role
- The MEAL Officer (volunteer) is responsible for the development, implementation, and coordination of ARISE’s Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning systems across all projects and programs.
- The role aims to ensure data-driven decision-making, promote accountability to beneficiaries and donors, and facilitate learning and improvement within the organization.
- The Officer also provides MEAL capacity building for program staff.
- The MEAL Officer is expected to work in close collaboration with MEAL Team members and with program and staff.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive MEAL framework for all ongoing and future projects.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data to measure program effectiveness.
- Ensure data quality and accuracy through regular reviews and validation.
- Prepare reports, dashboards, and visual representations of findings.
- Collaborate with teams to make data-driven recommendations for program improvement.
- Develop and manage databases for data storage and retrieval.
- Provide training and support to staff on MEAL methodologies and tools.
- Conduct regular field visits to ensure data collection integrity and provide on-the-ground support to project teams.
- Manage and maintain an up-to-date database of beneficiaries, project activities, and indicators.
- Collaborate with project managers to develop effective log frames, indicators, and data collection tools.
- Lead the process of data collection, including surveys, interviews, focus groups, and other research methodologies.
- Ensure compliance with ethical data collection and privacy standards, including obtaining informed consent when necessary.
- Apply advanced statistical analysis to identify trends, correlations, and outliers in the data.
- Summarize and visualize complex data into comprehensible reports and presentations for stakeholders.
- Assist in the preparation of grant proposals, impact assessments, and evaluation reports.
- Stay current with industry best practices and emerging trends in monitoring and evaluation and adapt methods accordingly.
- Offer continuous capacity-building and training to project staff and partners to enhance MEAL competencies.
Qualification and Requirements
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Information Technology, Computer Science or survey and Geoinformatics is preferred
- Experience: Minimum of two 2 years in monitoring and evaluation field
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., Excel, SPSS, or statistical software)
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to carry out data analysis with Tableau, SPSS, ArcGIS is an added advantage
