Role Overview
- The Senior Community Manager will be responsible for building, nurturing, and scaling the TEDxMaitama community across online and offline touchpoints.
- This role goes beyond moderation — it is about strategic community leadership, engagement design, volunteer coordination, and turning audience members into active ambassadors of the TEDxMaitama mission.
- You will play a critical role in sustaining momentum before, during, and after events, ensuring that TEDxMaitama is not just an event, but a thriving ideas-driven community.
Key Responsibilities
Community Strategy & Growth
- Design and execute a comprehensive community engagement strategy aligned with TEDxMaitama’s vision and annual theme.
- Grow and manage TEDxMaitama’s communities across WhatsApp, LinkedIn, email, and other platforms.
- Develop systems to convert attendees, volunteers, and followers into long-term community members.
Engagement & Content Activation
- Plan and manage community calendars including discussions, AMAs, speaker highlights, and post-event engagement.
- Collaborate with the content and media teams to amplify talks, speakers, and partner content.
- Foster meaningful, respectful, and intellectually stimulating conversations within the community.
Volunteer & Ambassador Management
- Coordinate volunteers and community leads across different workstreams.
- Build and manage a TEDxMaitama ambassadors or fellows programme.
- Onboard, train, and support volunteers to uphold TEDx values and community standards.
Events & Programming Support
- Support the execution of TEDxMaitama conferences, salons, watch parties, and community meetups.
- Ensure strong community participation before, during, and after events.
- Capture community feedback and insights to improve future programming.
Partnership & Stakeholder Engagement
- Work with partners, speakers, and sponsors to activate community-focused initiatives.
- Support collaborations with universities, innovation hubs, and ecosystem partners.
Reporting & Insights
- Track community growth, engagement metrics, and participation levels.
- Prepare short monthly reports with insights, learnings, and recommendations.
- Use feedback and data to continuously refine community strategies.
Required Experience & Skills
- 5+ years experience in community management, ecosystem building, communications, or related roles.
- Proven experience managing and growing online and offline communities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working with volunteers, creatives, or mission-driven teams.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Deep alignment with TEDx values: curiosity, inclusivity, integrity, and excellence.
Nice to Have
- Experience working with events, conferences, or media platforms.
- Familiarity with startup, creative, or innovation ecosystems.
- Experience managing communities across Africa or globally.
- Basic understanding of analytics, engagement metrics, and CRM tools.
